Community Alpha Test 5

Whispers of Grixius

Friday, October 18, 2024 · 1:00 PM EDT / 5:00 PM UTC

Whispers of Grixius, and over a thousand adventurers at once.

Our first in-world event. As the veil between worlds thinned, Aspects of Fear began turning up across Adrullan, and pilgrims gathered at a monolith in Moorhaven Crossings to face their fears for spooky rewards.

It was also the test where the numbers got big: 500 players in the first five minutes, 800 within half an hour, and before prime time, more than 1,000 at once for the first time ever.

Post-mortem

How it went

1,180peak concurrent players
12,960characters created
40,134hours played, about 4.58 years

Over the weekend, 1,135 characters played more than 10 hours and 38 played more than 40. Twenty-four reached the level cap of 15.

Humans and Dark Elves were the most popular races, and with the spooky season on, the darker arts were too: Shadow Knight and Necromancer were two of the top three classes, with Druid in between. Dark Elf Necromancer was the favorite combination, followed by Ogre Shaman and Human Beastlord.

We opened a second server, Ballast, on the first day to give everyone room, and had to roll back inventory once on Saturday night. On the last night we merged everyone onto Tibolt and gathered at the Whispers of Grixius turn-in for a group photo. Over 500 of you were in the picture.

What came next

The cheery rolling hills of the Ardent Vale and the Halflings of Willowbrook, a more enigmatic city rising in the south, two dungeons breaking ground, a revamp of hair and customization for every race, and lots of class work from what we learned.

What’s new

Since the last test

Whispers of Grixius

Collect Aspects of Fear from spectral beings and haunts, then bring them to Moorhaven Crossings, just before the Moorbreak Bridge to Harvest Reach. Soothsayer LeVira, Grogar the Fearless and Emma Tonks had rewards for the brave, including spooky fireworks.

A thousand at once

Over 1,000 players online together for the first time in our history, well before prime time. We kept everyone on one server as long as we could to collect the data.

Ballast opens

With hundreds packed into Leont, we opened a second server, Ballast, the Aspect of Industry. Characters were shared across both, so you could switch any time.

Harvest Reach had a very large pumpkin problem, and Brool’s group got the server first.
